Information for parents

Today
children are using the internet more often and at a younger age.
Here's some information about cyberbullying and what you can do to
prevent your child from being a victim.
What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying
can take many forms. It can include threatening or harassing a
peer via text messages, emails, or instant messages, spreading hurtful
rumors or personal information over the internet, or creating websites
to belittle someone.
What can I do as a parent?
* Talk to your child about cyberbullying.
*
Discuss the importance of telling you if they are bullied
online and stress that they will not "get in trouble"
if this happens.
*
Talk to them about what websites they can visit and what activities
they are allowed to do
online.
* Teach them that anything they write online can become public.
*
Report cyberbullying immediately to your internet service provider or
cell phone
service.
* Talk to your child about standing up for themselves and others if bullying is occurring.
